This long covered walkway’s perspective was too good to miss for a composition with the distant tower giving further depth. It was painted on a hot day as a plein air painting and is part of a series painted in this location, Callan Park, Sydney, Australia. I used a limited palette and worked on it over three sessions in the summer. I liked the perspective taking the viewer on a journey to the back of the painting then along to the tower and back to the foreground pillars. Once a hospital the building was constructed in 1878 and was well ahead of its time in using the pillars shown to harvest rainwater for collection into tanks underground. The position of the ball on top of the tower would indicate how full the tanks were.
