This painting is of a warm, memory-saturated place spanning three generations in our family: Valparaiso, Chile. From my grandfather falling in love in the navy, to my mother traveling back with him decades later, to my brother living abroad. Though the colors appear simple, each shade was mixed with great care using an effect called simultaneous contrast, wherein similar hues take on a different appearance when placed next to one another, creating the feeling of sun-bleached warmth.
