With this painting I wanted to capture the shimmering light of a summer afternoon. The sun is out of the painting to the left, so you can see the color shift from warm pinks to cooler blues, and then from cooler tones to warmer tones as it nears the horizon. I kept the paint thick and loose, and let some of the orange underpainting show through.
