In this mixed-media artwork I have created a painterly version of the state of Arizona inspired by the state's designated symbols. Here, smooth layers of paint and subtle mark making combine to form the variegated blue-green hues and striations of turquoise, the state gemstone. Surrounding land appears in a pale tint of red orange, and water in bright shades of blue, to collectively serve as subtle nods to the colors of the state flag, which features a copper star emerging from a blue field amidst the setting sun.
