The thing I really love about oil paints is their ability to achieve a dramatic range of color -- from almost translucent washes of colors, layered on top of each other, to thick opaques. This painting plays with that duality, using two of my favorite manifestations of spring, peonies and kumquats, as my subject and springboard for exploration.
