“Spiritual Realms” is part of my bold brushstroke art collection. In this collection, I use color and bold brush strokes to express emotion. Like a kaleidoscope, humans are capable of a spectrum of emotions. This painting was inspired by one of my favorite artists, Mark Rothko. His metaphysical aim was “to offer painting as a doorway into purely spiritual realms, making it as immaterial and evocative as music, and to directly communicate the most essential, raw forms of human emotion.” In some cultures, red represents purity, joy and celebration and is a traditional color worn by brides. In China, red is used for good luck and represents happiness and prosperity. Purple is often associated with spirituality, the sacred, higher self, passion, third eye, fulfillment, and vitality. It is believed that purple helps align oneself with the whole of the universe. For me, the mixture of these colors evokes an otherworldly feeling much like spiritual realms.
