Abstract wood and paper collage exploring the juxtaposition between delicacy and strength.

Playfield began as a simple tessellation idea, confined within a square frame in a very limited colour palette. I enjoyed shifting the shapes around like a sliding tile puzzle, but after a while they began to feel too boxed in. I started loosening them, giving them space to breathe, and I started to see what they might become.

I think of them as little gems, perfect for small spaces.

No.10 is a study in colour and line. Wood and cardboard.

Francesca has been licensing her work for publishing for a number of years, as well as creating her own prints for wall art. She mainly creates by hand and colours digitally, although recently she’s been drawn to traditional methods, including paint and paper collage to create abstract works. Francesca is the recipient of the Minted Emerging Fine Artist of the Year 2019. She lives in London with her husband and two boys. less
