I love observing our human connection to the sea. The way that it draws us, calms us, and provides us a place to breathe, to dream, and to play. As I watched these surfers floating on their boards, quietly enjoying a spring afternoon together in the vastness of the Pacific, that relationship was never more evident or beautiful to me. This subtly abstract, minimalist seascape was photographed high above the shores of Encinitas, California just north of San Diego. Rapid, manual in-camera motion blur techniques were used instead of a long-exposure or lens accessory to evoke a dreamy sense of energy and movement inherent to the surf.
